AC05-AATCC Crockmeter(Rubbing Fastness Tester) experimental procedure

2018-11-08 19:53:27

1.AATCC Crockmeter Purpose and Scope

This test method is designed to de-termine the amount of color transferred from the surface of colored textile materials to other surfaces by rubbing. Suitable for textile products such as yarn, yarn dyeing, printing and dyeing. Not recommended for carpets and printed textiles that are too small.

2.Principle

Under certain conditions, the test sample is rubbed against a standard friction white cloth. Color transferred to the white test cloth is assessed by a comparison with the Gray Scale for Staining or the Chro-matic Transference Scale and a grade is assigned.

3.Test sample preparation

  • Two specimens are used, one each for the dry and the wet tests.
  • Cut specimens at least 50 × 130 mm (2.0 × 5.1 in.) and position for testing pref-erably with the long dimension oblique to warp and filling or wales and courses.
  • If it is a yarn, Knit a piece of fabric at least 50 × 130 mm, or wind yarn tightly on a suitable form at least 50 × 130 mm with the yarn running in the long direction; or otherwise stretched
  • Condition each spec-imen for at least 4 h in an atmosphere of 21 ± 1°C (70 ± 2°F) and 65 ± 2% RH by laying each test specimen or crock square separately on a screen or perforated shelf of conditioning rack.

4.Procedures

4.1 Rubbing Fastness Tester Dry Crocking Test

  • Place the sample flat on the base surface of the Fabric Rubbing Crockmeter, and fix the length direction along the rubbing direction. Place the sample plate properly.
  • Mount a white test cloth square, the weave parallel with the direction of rubbing, over the end of the finger which projects downward from the weighted sliding arm. Use the special spiral wire clip to hold the test square in place. Posi-tion the clip with loops upward. If the loops point downward they can drag against the test specimen.
  • Place the friction head on the specimen and do not let the spring clip touch the specimen.
  • Lower the covered finger onto the test specimen. Beginning with the finger positioned at the front end, crank the meter handle 10 complete turns at the rate of one turn per second to slide the covered finger back and forth 20 times.
  • Remove the white test cloth square, Place at room temperature 21 ± 1 ° C, relative humidity of 65 ± 2% in an environment of at least 4H, After the test, There may be some fibers stuck to the rubbing white cloth, which has an impact on the rating. Before rating, Gently rub the loose fluff on the white cloth with a transparent adhesive. Remove the additional fibrous material and assess the staining of the rubbed white cloth.

4.2 Rubbing Fastness Tester Wet Crocking Test

  • Thoroughly wet the rubbed white cloth in distilled water, remove it and squeeze it in a white cloth to make it have a moisture content of 65±5%. Prepare a test sample each time to avoid evaporation and reduce moisture content.
  • The remaining steps are the same as the above steps 1-4 in the Dry Crocking Test.
  • After the friction white cloth is placed in the air to dry, repeat the work before the rating of step 5 in the Dry Crocking Test.
