Operating specifications Of Manual Fabric Stiffness Tester

2021-11-22 13:05:26

1. Prepare the test piece of Manual Fabric Stiffness Tester:

1) Use scissors to cut out the size of 25mm×200mm from the sample to be tested, with the long side of the sample facing the warp direction, the weft direction, and three samples each without damage and defects. If possible, samples in all directions should not contain the same number of warp (weft) yarns.

2) Specimen processing: All specimens must be kept at 21±1℃ and relative humidity less than 65%±2% for at least 4 hours.

2. Operation steps of Fabric Stiffness Tester:

1) Items to be confirmed before operation:

a) Confirm whether the instrument is placed steadily and horizontally.

2) Start the test:

a) Take a sample, the long side of the sample is parallel to the long side of the instrument, carefully lay it flat on the sample platform, the back side coincides with the edge of the positioning block, and the right short side of the sample is flush with the edge of the sample platform.

b) Place the right end of the marking plate and the right side of the sample flush on the sample, and the back side abuts against the end face of the positioning block.

c) Make the line of sight flush with the marking line of the instrument, and observe that the marking line image on the reflector coincides with the marking line.

d) Move the marking platen to the right by hand at a speed of about 25mm/5s, so that it drives the sample to move to the right, so that the suspended length of the right end of the sample is continuously increased.

e) When the free end of the right end of the sample sags to coincide with the mark, stop moving the sample.

f) Read the floating length value (C) above the marking platen and record the data.

g) Remove the sample, test other samples according to the above steps and record the data of each sample (C).

3. Result calculation and report of ASTM D1388 Stiffness Tester:

1) Result calculation: Calculate stiffness (G) according to the following formula

G=0.1MC3

In the formula: C-hanging length

M-sample fabric weight

Calculate the average value of the stiffness of the sample in the warp and weft directions.

2) Testing report

  • The test report should contain the following items:
  • Reference standard number (BS 3356):
  • Detailed description of the sample;
  • The average value of the suspended length of the warp specimen;
  • The average value of the suspended length of the zonal sample;
  • The average value of the stiffness of the warp specimen;
  • The average stiffness of the zonal sample;
  • The number of warp specimens;
  • The number of samples in the weft direction.
