Terms related to the snagging properties of knitted and woven fabrics

2022-05-15 22:26:01

The phenomenon of fibers and yarns in textiles being pulled out of the fabric surface due to snagging is called snagging. During the use of knitted fabrics and woven fabrics with textured filaments, when encountering hard objects, thread snagging is very likely to occur, and wire loops and/or tight yarn segments are formed on the surface of the fabric. When it encounters a sharp object and the force is severe, the monofilament is easily hooked off and protrudes from the fabric in the form of wool. The fabric produces snagging, which not only seriously deteriorates the appearance, but also affects the durability of the fabric.

Related terms:

(1) Snagging: the coil, fiber (bundle) ring, fluff or other uneven defects formed on the surface of the fabric after the yarn or fiber is hooked out or broken by sharp objects.

(2) Snagging length: the length between the end of the snagging and the surface of the fabric.

(3) Tight yarn section (tight streak): when a section of yarn in the fabric is hooked to form a hook wire, the part left in the fabric is straightened and obviously tight to the adjacent yarn, resulting in wrinkles and streaks at both ends or one side of the hook wire.

ICI Mace Snag Tester is used to detect the fuzzing and pilling phenomenon caused by friction on the fabric surface without pressure. It is suitable for woven and knitted fabrics.

Detection principle:

Put the cylindrical sample on the rotating cylinder, and place the nail hammer suspended by the chain on the surface of the sample. When the rotating drum rotates at a constant speed, the nail hammer randomly flips and jumps on the sample surface to hook the sample and generate a Snagging wire on the sample surface. After the specified number of revolutions, the wire Snagging degree of the sample shall be rated compared with the standard sample.
