The Wyzenbeek Abrasion Tester consists of several components including a test arm, a holder to hold the fabric sample, and the abrasive used for testing, such as wire mesh. The test method is to fix the fabric sample on the test arm, and install the abrasive on the opposite side of the fabric sample.

During the test, the test arm is moved back and forth in a straight line or in a specific pattern while the abrasive material rubs against the fabric sample. The number of cycles or rubs is usually controlled and predetermined according to test standards or specific requirements.

When a fabric sample is subjected to repeated rubbing, the tester measures the degree of wear, as indicated by changes in the fabric's appearance, such as broken yarns, fading, or surface damage. The tester may have a built-in mechanism to automatically count the number of cycles or rubs.

The results of Wyzenbeek abrasion tests are usually reported as the number of double rubs a fabric is subjected to before a noticeable change in appearance or damage occurs. Higher number of repeated rubs usually indicates better wear resistance.

The Wyzenbeek Abraser is only one method of evaluating abrasion resistance, there are others such as the Martindale Abraser and the Taber Abraser. Each method may have its own advantages, applications, and testing criteria.
