How to rate

01 What is felting?

GB / T 4802.4-2020 gives the definition of felting: the entanglement of fibers protruding from the surface of pile fabric forms a disorderly arrangement, resulting in visible surface changes. It can be seen from the definition that felting is generally aimed at pile fabrics.

02 Which fabrics need felting rating

1. The most direct, grab the keywords in the sample description, such as there are words such as corduroy and fleece in the sample description. These fabrics are clearly pointed out as pile fabrics and need felting rating, as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2.

03 Level description of felt rating

GB / T 4802.4-2020 standard gives a grade description of a felt rating, as Table 1.

The standard states: due to the subjectivity of the rating, at least two people should rate the sample, but the rating is mainly carried out by the eyes of the personnel. It is highly subjective and has different understanding of the degree of slight, moderate, obvious and serious. Sometimes different personnel are rated with a grade difference of 1 or more.

04 State description of different changes in felt rating

Slight felting

Slight: the surface fluff is slightly tangled, which hardly affects the appearance, as shown in Figure 5.

Moderate felting

Moderate: Some velvet rosetting, some of the ends of some fluffs are tangled together to form moderate appearance, as shown in Figure 6.

Obvious felting

Obviously: The surface fluff is obviously entangled, and the obvious small pellet is formed, and the disorderly arrangement is distributed, and the appearance changes significantly, as shown in Figure 7.
