Testing method of pilling performance of fabric

2018-05-14 19:52:35

There are four main test methods for the pilling performance of fabric:

  • Random tumble pilling test
  • Martindale pilling test
  • ICI pilling Test
  • Circular locus pilling test

Random tumble pilling test

Put the sample into the test box. Under the rotation of the impeller, the test sample is continuously and randomly rubbed against softwood liner wall of the box. After reaching the set time, the sample is taken out for rating.

Martindale pilling test

At the specified pressure, the circular specimen on the specimen holder and the abrasive (the same fabric or wool fabric abrasive as the specimen being tested) on the grinding table were rubbed according to the Lissajous movement curve. The sample can rotate freely about a central axis perpendicular to the plane of the sample. After the specified friction stage, visual descriptions were used to assess the fuzzing and pilling levels of the samples.

ICI pilling Test

Specimens mounted on polyurethane tubes were arbitrarily turned in a wooden box lined with cork at a constant speed. After a specified number of flips, a visual description of the pilling performance was assessed.

Circular locus pilling test

According to the prescribed method and test parameters, nylon brushes and fabric abrasives or only fabric abrasives are used to rub against the sample and make pilling. The visual description of pilling performance was then evaluated under specified lighting conditions.
