What are the factors that affect fabric shrinkage

2022-08-19 17:47:17

What is fabric shrinkage? The yarn buckling occurs during the re-weaving process, so the length or width it occupies in the fabric must be less than its original straightening length, and the percentage that reflects the difference between the two is called weaving shrinkage. They are expressed in terms of warp shrinkage and weft shrinkage.

The reason for the fabrics shrinkage

The weaving yarns are unisexual materials, and the warp and weft yarns can be in a straight state under a certain tension before they are interwoven into a fabric.

The fundamental reason for the weaving shrinkage is the buckling of the warp and weft yarns. The main reasons for determining the weaving shrinkage of the yarns in the fabric are the number of weaving times of the warp and weft yarns and the degree of the buckling wave.

Weaving shrinkage affects the strength, thickness, density, weight, appearance and shrinkage rate of the finished product. Due to the difference in the raw material thickness, density, fabric structure and process parameters of the warp and weft yarns, the warp and weft yarns can have a variety of matching relationships, so the weaving shrinkage rate is also different.

Main Factors Affecting Fabric Shrinkage

1. Raw material composition

The influence of fiber raw materials on the fabric shrinkage is complex. Generally speaking, the yarn that is easy to buckle has a large fabric shrinkage; The yarn that is prone to plastic deformation has a small shrinkage.

2. Yarn fineness

When warp and weft yarns with different linear densities are interwoven, the higher the linear density, the less the yarn is easy to buckle and the smaller the weaving shrinkage; Among the fabrics with the same warp and weft yarn density, the shrinkage of fabrics with high-density yarn is larger.

3. Yarn twist

If the twist is large, the yarn structure is compact and the rigidity is large, the shrinkage performance is poor and the shrinkage is small; otherwise, the shrinkage is large.

4. Average float length

The more weaving points of the fabric, the smaller the average float length, the more warp and weft buckling waves, and the greater the weaving shrinkage.

5. Fabric density

The tighter the fabric, the more warp and weft buckling waves, and the greater the weaving shrinkage of the fabric.

6. Weaving process

Tension and opening time on the machine: The tension and opening time on the machine directly affect the shrinkage rate of the fabric and the weft density of the grey fabric.

7. Effect of sizing rate

Sizing: if the warp sizing rate is high, the warp shrinkage will decrease, and vice versa.

8. Temperature and humidity of weaving workshop:

Temperature and humidity: the temperature and humidity in the weaving workshop are high, and the warp yarn is easy to stretch after being tensioned, so the shrinkage decreases and the shrinkage increases; On the contrary, warp shrinkage increases and weft shrinkage decreases.

Weaving shrinkage affects the fabric shrinkage rate of the finished product, AVENO has designed a machine for testing the fabric shrinkage rate:
